RISE participates in three EU-funded Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEFs), Europe’s flagship platforms for validating AI technologies and robotics in real-world environments.
What Are TEFs?
TEFs are large-scale European test environments where AI applications can be safely developed, validated, and demonstrated under real-world conditions. Funded by the European Union and member states through the Digital Europe Programme (DEP), they provide essential infrastructure for trustworthy AI, enabling technical evaluation, regulatory guidance, and compliance before market introduction.
AgrifoodTEF: Accelerating AI and Robotics in the Agri-Food Sector
AgrifoodTEF is a pan-European network of testing and experimentation facilities that provides real-world agricultural environments to ensure compliance, build trust, and accelerate innovation across the food system.
In Sweden, AgrifoodTEF is led by RISE and AstaZero, offering testing environments adapted to Northern European conditions.

TEF-Health: Advancing Trustworthy AI for Health and Care
TEF Health aims to support the testing and development of trustworthy AI solutions in the health sector, giving participants access to some of Europe’s leading hospitals, universities, and validation experts across 52 partners in 9 countries.
The Swedish node is led by Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with RISE, Karolinska University Hospital, and SciLifeLab.

CitCom.ai: AI for Smart and Sustainable Cities
TEF CitCom.ai focuses on the testing and evaluation of AI systems that support smart, sustainable, and resilient cities and communities, connecting participants to expertise across more than 30 organisations in 12 Member States.
In Sweden, CitCom.ai is hosted within the Connected Society unit at RISE and works closely with AI Factory Mimer, EDIH ShiftLabs, and other partners.
